Why use me
I want to help you create an excellent product and ease the process for you. I can take full control of your project for you - give me the brief and I'll run with it. To deadline. For a competitive price. For me it's as much about the words as it is about the design, and I can also take the photos you want in your publications.
I bring a range of personal values into my work: honesty, efficiency, organisation, attention to detail, commitment to the job and to my customers, and delivery to deadline. I care, I create and I check thoroughly. You can rely on the fact that your job will be in efficient, capable hands. And I'm friendly, amenable and nice to work with!
About me
I am a freelance graphic designer and photographer based in North Yorkshire. I graduated in Modern Languages (German/French) from the University of Edinburgh, and have a lifelong love of classical music and 28 years’ experience of working in arts administration, first in concert promotion for Leeds International Concert Season, then in publications for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. I speak German at a regular meet-up group and also learned Spanish at evening classes run by Leeds Metropolitan University, gaining the Diploma in Higher Education in Spanish Language Studies with distinction in 2013.
Using Adobe Creative Suite, I prepare a variety of publications ranging from magazines and festival programme books to brochures, flyers and posters. With my education as a linguist, I add value to my design work through careful attention to detail with regard to spelling, grammar and punctuation, proofreading and editing the copy as a matter of course.
My commercial photography work includes interiors, gardens, events, architecture, food and outdoor portraits. I love capturing the moment, and finding unusual angles in structure, from the steel and glass of contemporary high-rise buildings to nature’s most intricate designs in colourful spring flowers. See examples of my work here and some of my architectural photos on the Ribapix website, under Tabor, Helen.
